Description
Black pepper are berries picked half-ripe and then dried. The pepper plant is a climbing plant native to India. After two to three years, white flowers appear on the pepper plant and develop into clusters of round berries. These berries are first green, then red and finally dark brown. Green pepper, black pepper and white pepper all come from the same pepper plant. Green pepper are berries that are harvested when they are still green.
Black and white pepper can be found ground or as whole grains. To preserve as much of the aroma as possible, it is best to buy whole peppercorns and grind them just before use.
