Description
As a member of the genus Allium, wild garlic is closely related to other known plants such as onion (Allium cepa), garlic (Allium sativum), leek (Allium ampeloprasum) and chives(Allium schoenoprasum). Its botanical name, Allium ursinum, is derived from the Latin ursus, meaning bear. It was called “bear garlic” because it is a real springtime booster for bears that have just awakened from hibernation.
