Description
Pink Pepper Bio (Schinus terebinthifolius) is not actually a true pepper (see Black Pepper, White Pepper, Green Pepper). The coral-red, 4-5 mm berries grow on a shrub native to Central and South America that belongs to the Whig tree family (Anacardiaceae).
Pink pepper does not have the typical pepper taste but rather a rather warm aromatic, even almost sweet taste. The seeds do have a spicy taste but certainly not as “hot” as the seeds of chili peppers, for example.
Pink pepper is therefore usually used in combination with other real pepper or in other spice blends for an extra touch of flavor and, of course, its beautiful color.
Preparation Pink Pepper Organic
Some dishes where pink pepper comes into its own:
- Sprinkled over grilled or smoked salmon for a delicate flavor and visual touch.
- With chicken dishes.
- Carpaccio: For a sophisticated touch with raw beef.
- Delicious in vinaigrettes with olive oil, lemon or honey.
- Fits well in a light, creamy sauce, such as for pasta or vegetables.
- Chocolate: Combine pink pepper with dark or milk chocolate in cakes, chocolates or truffles.
- Use pink pepper as a garnish in gin tonics or infusions.
Be careful not to overcook pink pepper, as it will lose its delicate flavor!
