Description
Green pepper are berries of the pepper plant that one harvests while they are still green. Black pepper are berries that one picks half-ripe and then dries.
The pepper plant is a climbing plant native to India. After two to three years, white flowers appear on the pepper plant and develop into clusters of round berries. These berries are first green, then red and eventually dark brown. Green, black and white pepper all come from the same pepper plant.
Pepper can be found ground or as whole grains. To preserve as much of the aroma as possible, it is best to buy whole peppercorns and grind them just before use.
