Description
Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) has a long history and was considered a magical plant in folk medicine. It was also called the “mother of all herbs.” Mugwort gets its name from the fact that people used to put the leaves of mugwort in their shoes. This kept the feet from getting tired during a long foot journey. The plant has traditionally been used to regulate the hormonal cycle in women and for digestion. Mugwort is related to Absinthe wormwood but contains fewer bitter substances, giving it a slightly milder effect. In addition, mugwort also repels insects.
Mugwort or moxa has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine during acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture points are heated with moxa so that energy and heat are added to those points. Energy starts to flow again. The acupuncturist may choose this if there is pain due to stagnation or too much cold.
