Icelandic Moss organic

Icelandic moss or Cetraria islandica is not actually a real moss. It is a type of lichen, a combination of fungi and algae. Despite not being a moss, Icelandic moss gets its name from its mossy appearance. The color ranges from yellow-green to dark-green-gray. It has a cartilaginous texture that grows well in different climates.

Icelandic Moss is used in European folk medicine as a natural remedy for colds, coughs and other health problems.

How to make Icelandic Moss tea:

Tea from Icelandic Moss can be quite bitter in taste (lots of bitter compounds). To invoke only the useful mucilages for digestion: 2 teaspoons per cup – pour over with hot water – let steep for 2 minutes – pour off the water (with the bitters) – pour over again with water and now let steep for 10 minutes. 3 to 4 cups per day.

A second method: infuse 2 teaspoons of Icelandic moss on cold water for 24 hours.

For respiration (mucilage and bitter substances preserved): 2 teaspoons per cup – pour over with hot water – steep for 10 minutes – 3 to 4 cups per day.

Good combinations:

Icelandic Moss combines well with Aniseed, Licorice and Holly in respiratory disorders
