Description
Ground Ivy (Glechoma hederacea) belongs to the family of labiatae, which also includes mint, sage, thyme and rosemary. Dogweed has small, heart-shaped leaves with jagged edges. The flowers are small, tubular and purple in color. The plant grows low to the ground and can spread quickly through rhizomes, making it an excellent ground cover. Dogweed is often found near nettle. The two encourage each other to grow. Dogstraw has been used in folk medicine for respiratory ailments, digestive problems and skin irritations, among other things.
