Description
Devil’s claw or Harpagophytum procumbens is a plant native to the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. It grows in the savannas of Namibia, South Africa and Botswana. The plant gets its name from the appearance of the fruit. The fruits are covered with hooks that easily stick to the fur of animals, thus spreading them as the animals wander.
The roots of the devil’s claw plant have been used for centuries by the Khoisan people of southern Africa to treat pain, arthritis, indigestion and skin conditions. In phytotherapy, the contents of the root of Devil’s Claw are used.
