Description
Honeybush (Cyclopia intermedia) is a shrub with woody stems with three-part leaves and bright yellow flowers. The tea is made from the fermented leaves and stems of the honeybush shrub. It is grown on the Eastern Cape of South Africa and is closely related to Rooibos tea which originates from the Western Cape of South Africa. The flowers of the Honeybush bush have a honey-like fragrance, which gives the plant and tea its sweet-sounding name.
Tea drinkers describe the taste of this particular plant as floral, slightly toasty and similar to honey. Although it is often compared to Rooibos tea, Honeybush is a bit sweeter and fuller in flavor. Some say the taste is “less medicinal” than Rooibos tea.
