Chia seeds are the small black seeds of the chia plant(Salvia hispanica). Originally from Mexico and Guatemala, they were a staple food for the ancient Aztecs and Mayans. “Chia” is the ancient Mayan word for “strength.” The nutritious seeds are small, flat and oval in shape with a shiny and smooth texture.
