Our pure green tea varieties, sourced from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, are picked by hand, often in the early morning hours, when their aromas and active substances are at their best. After harvesting, green tea undergoes subtle but crucial processing to preserve its unique character. Instead of fermenting completely as with black tea, the leaves are quickly steamed or roasted. This process stops oxidation and preserves the fresh, vibrant colors and delicate flavors of the leaves. Steaming, a signature technique for green tea, helps to preserve the natural grassy and floral notes and provides a refined, clean taste. This careful processing results in a tea that is both pure and complex. The flavor of green tea offers a delicate balance of fresh, grassy notes and a subtle, soft sweetness, with a vibrant color resulting from the preservation of chlorophyll during steam treatment.

The quality of our organic green tea is unmistakable. Health benefits

Green tea, sourced from the Camellia sinensis plant, is not only a pleasure to drink but also offers a range of science-backed health benefits. This type of tea is rich in catechins, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a powerful antioxidant known for its disease-fighting properties. Research shows that EGCG can help reduce inflammation and promote a healthy heart, by lowering LDL cholesterol and improving blood circulation.

In addition, green tea has been linked to improved brain function and protection against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. This is due to the combination of caffeine and L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation without causing drowsiness, leading to sharper focus and concentration. Green tea can also contribute to weight management because it stimulates fat burning and increases metabolism, as several studies have shown.

At 't Lof der Kruiden we not only appreciate the refined taste of organic green tea, but also the countless health benefits that this age-old drink offers.

Taste

The taste of green tea has many refined nuances, which are both refreshing and complex. At the first sip you experience a fresh, almost vegetal vibrancy, reminiscent of freshly mown grass or young spring leaves. This freshness is accompanied by a slight earthiness. As the tea develops in your mouth, a soft, natural sweetness emerges, which balances perfectly with a subtle, pleasant bitterness. This bitterness is never overpowering, but rather a refined accent that underlines the complexity of the tea and contributes to the refreshing aftertaste.
