Tea

At 't Lof der Kruiden we not only have a passion for herbs and infusions (herbal tea), but we also offer a selection of high-quality organic teas, derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. This tea plant is the basis for green, black, white and oolong tea.

Each type of tea has its own unique character and flavor profile, shaped by the specific growing conditions, picking methods and processing processes. From the delicate flavor of white tea to the robust and complex notes of black tea, and from the subtle freshness of green tea to the semi-fermented richness of oolong, we aim to offer something special for every tea lover.

Our organically grown teas mainly come from China, the tea country par excellence with a rich and ancient tea culture.

Infusions (Herbal Teas)

herbal infusion (or herbal tea) is not only a highly tasty drink, it can also significantly support your health. The active ingredients in herbs such as flavonoids and polyphenols are known for their antioxidant properties, which help neutralize free radicals in the body. This can help reduce inflammation and lower the risk of chronic diseases.

Many infusions are made from lower quality herbs that are not suitable for individual sale. We, on the other hand, use the same high-quality herbs for both ours loose herbs as our herbal teas. This guarantees top quality for all our products. Our recipes are homemade, so we can adjust the composition if necessary, for example after new scientific findings about the phytotherapeutic applications of certain herbs.

Difference Tea and infusions

Teas and infusions are often placed in the same category, but there are distinct differences between the two.

What is tea?

Tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The best-known types are green tea, black tea, white tea and oolong tea. These types are created by different processing methods:

  • Green tea: Not oxidized, steamed.
  • Black tea: Completely oxidized.
  • White tea: Not oxidized at all.
  • Oolong tea: Partially oxidized and roasted.

Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants. Drinking tea offers many health benefits, such as fighting inflammation, protecting cells, reducing stress, and boosting metabolism.

What are infusions?

Infusions are hot drinks made by pouring hot water over herbs, spices, flowers or fruit. Popular ingredients include chamomile, mint, rose hips, lime blossoms, berries and flowers. Infusions are caffeine-free and often rich in antioxidants and other nutrients. They are also ideal for people who are sensitive to caffeine or want a relaxing drink in the evening.

Main differences:

  • Ingredients: Tea is made from Camellia sinensis leaves, while infusions use various herbs, spices, flowers or fruits.
  • Caffeine: Tea contains caffeine; infusions are caffeine-free.
  • Taste: Tea flavor varies due to oxidation; infusions get their flavor from the ingredients used

Health benefits of tea

The Camellia sinensis, the plant from which all our beloved tea varieties come, not only offers a rich taste experience, but also contributes to better health. Green tea, for example, is known for its high levels of antioxidants, which can help fight free radicals in the body. These antioxidants, such as catechins, support the immune system and may lower the risk of chronic diseases. Black tea, with its savory and robust nature, also has health benefits; it contains polyphenols that have a positive influence on the heart and blood vessels. In addition, due to its minimally processed leaves, white tea is prized for its purity and smooth taste, while at the same time being able to slow the aging process of the skin. Oolong tea, a halfway fermented variety, promotes digestion and can contribute to weight management. Each type of tea offers unique properties that benefit both body and mind, and enhances the feeling of well-being that comes with a cup of tea. At 't Lof der Kruiden we attach great importance to these health aspects, which means that our selection of organic teas is not only pure and natural, but also a benefit to your health.
